Transitioning from a corporate employee to a business coach has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve gone from managing responsibilities in a structured corporate environment, earning an MBA, building my own business, acquiring an electrical company, and now coaching others to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams.
Each phase has come with its own challenges, but it has also equipped me with the tools to help others transform their businesses in meaningful ways.
The Corporate Climb
Like many professionals, I began my career in the corporate world. Working within large organizations provided me with a solid foundation in business operations, leadership, and strategy. However, I always felt a sense of limitation—knowing there was more I could achieve beyond the confines of my corporate role.
This is what led me to pursue my MBA. I wanted to expand my knowledge and better understand the dynamics of business at a broader level. It was during this time that I realized the passion I had for creating solutions, not just for myself but for others.
Becoming a Business Owner
After completing my MBA, I made the bold decision to start my own business. The transition from a predictable corporate paycheck to managing the ups and downs of entrepreneurship taught me resilience. I experienced firsthand what many business owners go through—balancing finances, adapting to market changes, and making tough decisions without a safety net.
I later acquired an electrical company, which was heavily affected by COVID-19. Like many businesses, we struggled to get the supplies and materials we needed. It took a full year to receive generators, and finding skilled people to join the team was a constant challenge. Despite these obstacles, I was able to keep my employees, a victory I am particularly proud of.
But the journey was far from easy. I made some financial mistakes along the way, and just when things were starting to look up, my husband was hospitalized. This personal crisis, combined with the company running out of money, left me feeling drained—I lost my mojo. In the end, I had to make the difficult decision to close the business.
Addressing the Business Closure
I know some people are still upset by my decision to close the company, and I don’t take that lightly. It wasn’t a decision I made easily. I understand the impact it had on my employees, and others involved, and it’s something I think about often. However, the reality was that I faced circumstances some beyond my control- supply chain disruptions, financial challenges, and personal crisis that made continuing the business unsustainable.
Closing the business was one to hardest things I’ve ever done, but was also a turning point. I learned invaluable lessons from that experience, and it’s made me stronger, more empathetic coach today. I know what it feels like to face the brink of collapse, to be weighed down by tough decisions, and to have to find a way forward. These lessons are exactly what I now pass on to my clients.
The Move to Coaching
The lessons i learned from running- and closing – my business, paired with the years of experience, became the foundation for my move into business coaching. I realized I had a unique perspective to offer; real-life experience in managing and turning around businesses,combined with the academic foundation from my MBA. My coaching is grounded in actionable strategies that I’ve used in my own business and now I use to help my clients grow and scale.
Business coaching isn’t just about giving advice- it’s about empowering others to see the possibilities they hadn’t considered and to push beyond their comfort zones. For me, this means helping business owners and leaders identify areas of growth, streamline operations, and build long-term strategies that sustain success. It also means navigating tough times, whether that’s a market downturn or other foreseen challenges.
This is why coaching became the next chapter of my career. I realized that my journey—both the wins and the losses—provided a unique perspective I could offer to others. As a coach, I draw from my own experiences to help business owners navigate tough decisions, avoid common pitfalls, and build strategies for long-term success.
